Why, just tell me why?

unfortunately we (jenna and me) were persecuted by this little word through our whole self-guided tour on fraser island- the biggest sand island in the world by the way. indees we sometimes had the impression that god forgot to equip some people from our group with enough brain cells....
why did they buy the most expensive small packages from kellogs (three different flavours...) and not just one big package of cheap cereals?
and why did they buy many small packages of the best sliced cheese you can get in the supermarket instead of one big...hello we're 9 people
why did one girl bring her 'backpack on roles' on a sand isle?? sand and ball bearings might not be the best couple...divorce promised, i bet :)
i could write heaps of those examples, our team was just not that well organised and not really adapted to the circumstances of camping, so in the end we've spent worthy money for food we haven't even touched in the three days. but it was still such a great trip and a really big adventure to explore the island on your own with the 4 wheel drive and camping gear. sometimes we really felt more like bouncing balls in the car then anything else. there were roads indeed but that only meant that there were no trees, it was so rough to 'drive' or better jump on these hilly sandy ground- despite bum bruises and some adrenalin shocks good fun :) on the first day it rained a lot so that it became pretty uncomfy because there was absolut no way to dry anything, but that's just camping, isn't it? after a very wet night (*harrumphing* weird word, so *rauesper* lol) the situation didn't seem to improve because the ranger recommened us to leave the island straight away because the cyclon might hit fraser, they don't evacuate yet though, but just as an advice- that wouldn't have be funny then in a tent on the beach...not at all! fortunately the weather became great during the day and we decided to stay but to sleep in the middle on the island. the second evening was very nice because we met another group and indees sat in a circle of 19 people for the whole evening and played drinking games. i introduced some german games- too funny- and learned a few from the english guys.
all in all, the island offered pretty much: driving through the sand directly next to the water, nice rainforest, an old ship wreck

absolutely green or crystal clear lakes

lake mc kenzie.....isn't that beautiful *seufz* i've never seen such a nice freshwater lake before
that was fun, you could run or slide the dune down into the water...in the water there were heaps of catfish though and they usually suck on your toe if you attract them by nudging the water surface *schauder* and they're not too small! now i know why some of the guys stood waist deep in the water with such a satisfied grin on their face *lol*
and sanddunes everywhere, even mountains made of sand
this sandy landscape was quite impressive!
another typical thing for fraser are the dingos, they look like dogs but are wild. so you have to be very dangerous with your food, you aren't allowed to leave used dishes outside because that could attract them, one group even got a fine because they didn't clean their bbq plate. it's true, when we came out of our tent the next morning we saw their footprints everywhere on our campside. they're supposed to be aggressive but when we saw one, he just didn't seem to be interested and just kept running.

it's a pity that we didn't make it to the indian heads in the north but it was too dangerous with the tide getting to high that day. so we couldn't observe the turtles (we saved one that was stranded after the strom though)
dolphins and especially tiger sharks (breeding are - uhhh) from that special lookout. but the sea was too rough and murky anyway- by the way, you're not suppossed to swim at these beautiful beaches :( and if even aussies say that it's too sharky, that really means something because usually that's something you either don't talk about or that just doesn't happen here ;)
it was pretty funny with the irish guys because of their funny accent
"could you pass me a pan please?"
"what? what do you need a pen for?"
"no a pan, like a pot or bowl....for the tomatoes"
"ahh a pun" *lol* they pronounce the a and the u like we do in germany...
